Antalgic-Trak range of motion- decompression therapy
What Have Thousands Of Patients Discovered About Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression Therapy?*
The have found relief from low back or neck conditions like disc herniation, bulges, and degenerative joint disease. Their symptoms are oftentimes eliminated with this effective therapy.
More specifically the Antalgic-Trak can relieve neck and back pain from:
Degenerative discs
Spinal facet syndrome
Nerve root pressures
Fixated or locked vertebral joints
Herniated, protruding and bulging discs
Sciatica, radiculopathy, and other vertebral related nerve root irritations
Restricted spinal range of motion
In the early 1990s a non-surgical spinal decompression table called the Vax-D was developed and researched by Allan Dyer, MD, PhD, and later the DRS table was developed and researched by C. Norman Shealy, MD, PhD.
Other manufacturers of medical equipment have followed by making similar machines today. Many continue to have the same “box like” design which use a cable system to create decompression forces much like old style traction tables.
There are even inexpensive “knock-off” decompression tables which have emerged onto the healthcare scene that are nothing more than dressed up traction tables and claim to be the same as more elaborate pieces of medical equipment. As a healthcare consumer it is important to recognize the differences in these treatment products.
What Makes The Antalgic-Trak Different?
Since the development of original decompression machines such as the Vax-D and DRS, the concepts of non-surgical spinal decompression have evolved into what is known as the Antalgic-Trak. The Antalgic-Trak was invented by David Bass, DC, MS, AP, and co-developed by MultiCare’s Co-Director, Scott Denny, PhD, DC, MS, AP.
As a result of years of R&D, the future of traction decompression therapy is here in our facility today. Unlike the older style machines in use today in clinics all over the country, the Antalgic-Trak has a fully functional neck section and low back section which allows the doctor to perform treatment with great specificity into the exact areas where therapy is needed.
In addition, the articulating capabilities of the Antalgic-Trak allow the doctor or therapist to perform range of motion therapy for the cervical and lumbar regions of the spine, either under the gentle distraction forces of decompression or without decompression. Older decompression units do not allow for targeted or specific treatment and can only perform “axial” treatment (pulling the neck or low back in one direction). These older systems can not perform for range of motion therapy. Although these older decompression systems claim to target specific disc levels by simply changing the "angle of pull," after extensive investigation no studies have been found to substantiate this claim. The height of the patient, the individual body shape, and the length and size of the spine all impact the resultant "angle of pull." Without actual video x-ray, it would be impossible to reproduce this concept consistently from patient to patient. The Antalgic-Trak on the other hand can "posture position" a patient into the most mechanically advantageous posture in order to maximize decompression of the spinal discs, and the spinal supportive tissues. Posture placement is accomplished through a simple assessment and by feedback from the patient. No other system has this capability because no other system can move the patient into different postures. It's that simple.
Since the Antalgic-Trak has no patient positioning or movement limitations, the best patient posture can be used to maximize the effects of therapy. The Antalgic-Trak and our clinical treatment called AntalgiCare KDM (an acronym for Kinetic Decompression Mobilization) allows doctors or therapists to perform decompression therapy with range of motion/mobilization techniques, that up until now have not been seen or used before.
How Does It Actually Work?
Treatment on the Antalgic-Trak allows for gentle distraction of the bones of the low back or neck, increasing circulation and nutrition to the spinal discs and related structures through rhythmic decompression of the tissues. It also provides comfortable rehabilitative stretching to the supportive structures of the spine; the ligaments, tendons and muscles. The patient has complete control of the treatment process and holds a control to stop the therapy at anytime. Oftentimes patients will fall asleep while experiencing this gentle relaxing therapy. Although many patients will benefit from standard axial decompression therapy, the ability to combine decompression with the freedom of moving the spine into limitless positions is changing the way this treatment is being performed.
Non-surgical spinal decompression is the leading alternative to spine surgery, and when combined with range of motion therapy, is a very powerful tool. It's a pain free solution that has shown a very high rate of success in reducing or even eliminating back or neck pain. Antalgic-Trak is helping thousands of people, who just like you thought they would never be free of the pain associated with simple daily tasks such as sitting, getting out of bed or climbing stairs.
Are There Risks?
There are very few risks associated with this treatment. A complete consultation and examination will be performed to determine if you are a candidate for treatment. There is no downtime, and there are no drugs involved. No serious side effects have been reported with this form of therapy. You will enjoy your sessions, and feel great after each and every one of them. Unlike other advanced procedures for the management of neck and back pain, such as Manipulation Under Anesthesia (MUA), treatment on the Antalgic-Trak does not require any sedation or the risks associated with anesthesia.
The decision to have this type of treatment is an important one. We adhere to an outcomes driven healthcare model, and careful consideration is made in regards to your treatment program throughout the entire treatment process.
What Other Services Will I Be Receiving?
Although treatment on the Antalgic-Trak is the central focus of our program, additional therapeutic procedures and modalities will often be used to custom tailor your personalized treatment program and may include physical therapy modalities, and the use of natural medicines in order to achieve the most favorable treatment result and benefit.
Following the Antalgic-Trak program we will be making recommendations for spinal muscle and core strengthening in order to maintain the benefits of the course of treatment. Once again, unlike other facilities that may only focus on one element of your care, the MultiCare Rehab team focuses on all aspects of treatment from beginning to end. In many respects this is the most important aspect of the program and will include both in office and home exercise procedures.
Scheduling Your Treatment
We're serious about appointments. Antalgic-Trak scheduling must accommodate the needs of many patients and therefore must be precise. For everyone's sake, it is essential we remain on schedule. Your care will begin by scheduling a group of time slots that will become YOUR time slots. If you don't show up, the machine will remain idle as your sessions will not be given to anyone else. We treat appointment times seriously. They are pivotal to the success of your treatment. Please take your appointment times seriously and please choose your treatment times wisely. So, it is critical to secure and reserve your group of appointments. This will ensure uninterrupted treatment from the start of your program to its completion. Like a team, we're committed to helping you. We need you to be just as committed. Treatment programs are typically 7 weeks in length followed by additional visits for core strengthening.
Who Is Not A Candidate For Spinal Decompression Therapy?
Anyone who has recent spinal fractures, surgical fusion or metallic hardware, surgically repaired aneurysms, infection of the spine, and/or moderate to severe osteoporosis, osteomalacia, myelitis, anklyosing spondylitis, fractures, and unstable spondylolisthesis with pars defects, post surgical conditions where metal implants (rods, cages and screws) have been used, cancer or tumors.
Is There A Fee For The Consultation?
We know there are many questions about our treatment programs, and we encourage you to ask as many questions as you would like during your no obligation consultation. There is no charge for your Antalgic-Trak treatment consultation.
There are several very important questions that you must ask yourself if you are considering this type of therapy:
Firstly, does it make sense to use a treatment system with the broadest applications to treat your spinal condition?
Secondly, does it make sense to invest in your health with old technology, or worse yet, having your treatment on inferior equipment which may impact the treatment outcome?
